Let's Start Now!!

It was hard, but we finally got through the oil crisis. Human kind was put into a huge test to see if people were ready to face a world without oil. This just proves that we’re not ready for an oil limitation. People are scared of what’s to come. Riots and criticism are increasing since people are questioning and doubting the president because they think he can not handle the current crisis. Prices of gas and cargo industry rose because there wasn’t oil to transport goods. The oil spill also increased the price of seafood products because fishermen had to look for fish in other areas were there oil did not contaminate the sea. Now that the petroleum industry found more oil we are back to normal. I can start eating fish again because I wasn’t willing to pay double in price. That’s why we need to stop our dependency on oil and start using other resources that can substitute these goods. We can start using cloth bags instead of the plastic bags that they give in the markets. We can also use electrical cars instead of the ones run by gas, and solar power electricity for our homes. The government should provide the communities with recycling bins so that recycling becomes a daily routine. Energy laws should be created that make people start carrying for their environment. It won’t be hard for me to adjust to this new lifestyle because I’m an eco-friendly person and I really care about our environment. At home, we’re always recycling bottles, cans, and reuse plastic bags. We also try to walk more instead of using the car. So, let’s start now before the real oil shortage increases.

The Oil Spill

With this oil explosion we’ve been having a lot of work to do. I am Lisette Dominguez, a member of President Obama's administration. My co-workers and I are trying to make a new plan for the members of Congress because the last one we had, they did not agree with it. The plan was to open vest stretches of the U.S. coastline to oil and gas drilling but the members didn’t agree with it because they are afraid of this oil spill to happen again. We are trying to fix this problem as soon as possible because people are starting to criticizes President Obama and they are daunting on his ability to handle any disasters were they are also comparing him to George Bush the fact that he couldn’t handle the effects of hurricane Katrina. There’s a lot of tension going on in the Congress right now and they also have a reason too. I mean, this oil explosion caused a lot of damage to the ocean and to our economy. Now the ocean is polluted and it’s affecting the mammals that live in the ocean, an example could be birds. The oil is poisoning the birds and the oil is getting stuck to there fur. Other animals like dolphins, whales, and sea otter are getting skin, lung, and liver damages and this is not fair that creatures are suffering because of our mistake. Where working really hard to come up with something good and can resolve this problem that is affecting our economy and our environment.

The Beginning

While I was walking to all the different stores with my mom looking for vegetables for my salad, I saw that the Valero gas station on the corner of my house was closing. My mom asked a man that was next to the gas station reading the “close” sign, “I think they don’t open today.” The man answered, “Oh no there not going to open it anymore because of this oil crisis that’s going on. This gas station is not making money anymore. Gas is too high and people are starting to ride their bikes and horses more. We have to get use to seeing this more lately because this is how it’s going to now on.” My mom replied “You’re right, instead of using the car now where walking to the store and it’s healthier too. The doctor just told me that I have to walk

at least 30 minutes a day and that’s what where doing now. Well nice talking to you and hope we all get used to living without oil.” “Nice meeting you too, but the bad thing is that the man that used to work here will be jobless and that’s another member of the unemployment crisis”, his last words and then walked away. We continued walking to store by store looking for some fresh and cheap vegetables. “Are you going to get cranberry juice? Because there’s only pineapple juice at home and you know how picky you are and you’re not going to be able to drink anything if it’s not cranberry juice,” my mom said. So I went looking for cranberry juice, when I opened the fridge I graved the bottle and I read the price. “FIVE DOLLARS!!!” I was shocked at the price but cranberry juice for me is inelastic and I will buy it no matter what the price is because I love it that much and I feel like I really need it.

My flight has been CANCELED!!

Ive been waiting for today, it really meant a lot me because it was the beginning of my adventure and going across the world visiting different places and cultures. When i woke up today I pictured myself taking pictures of the Eyjafjallajoekull volcano because it was the first place were i was going to visit once I got to Iceland. But everything turned out to be bad. I was running late even though i got out of my house four hours before the departure. The reason I got to the airport late was because I couldn't find a ride to the airport. I was waiting for my brother to pick me up and take me but he lived to far and the gas was too expensive for him to pump gas and to come all the way to Los Angeles if he live in Anaheim. So i decide to call a taxi, I asked them how much would they charge me to get to LAX. They told me that they would charge me around be $100. It sounded like a lot of money and I asked him why too much and he said it was because its hard to find oil these days that the prices went up.When i heard that i just hanged up the phone. I couldn't afford paying $100, but the guy was saying the true. Now that there's a oil shortage the price of the gas has gone really high like about $7 a gallon. People have found ways to get to places like horses. My neighbors just bought some horses and a carriage, so they gave me a ride to the airport. When I got there my flight was canceled because Eyjafjallajoekull had just erupted. If i knew that my flight was going to be canceled i wouldn't have gone through everything i went us to get to the airport. When i got there the airport was full because everyone that were flying to Europe flight had been canceled. I asked for refunds because you never know when the sky will clear up in Iceland. The good thing is that i didn't paid $100 or else i would of paid doubled to get back home. Now it will take me about 12 months to step next to Eyjafjallajoekull because it was fresh and there will be ashes. Now I have cancel all my reservations and see hat day is open.

Why is it so hard to make a salad?

Prom is just around the corner and for that day I want to look good on my dress. Right now I'm in a soccer team and its helping me burn some calories. But if i want to lose weight then I'm going to have to put myself in a diet. So I went to the market in the corner of my house were I regularly buy my food. I was looking for vegtables so I could make my salads and stop eating food with allot of fats. I was looking threw the vegtable allies and I could find any fresh lettuce, they looked all old and rotten. It was also $1.25 each ball of lettuce, that's too expensive and I'm planing to eat that every day until May 26, 2010.So I left my cart and I walked out, I went to the store I went to the store that is two blocks away from my house. When i got there, all the vegetables and fruits were very expensive. I turned around and i saw an employer,"Why is everything so expensive?" I asked. He answered,"Well because of the oil shortage its hard to get fruits and vegetables over here because they send us things from Bakersfield and different places and that's far. So now we try to get supply from the farmers market that is in 3rd st and it takes us about in hour to get it here because we don't have a truck on how to bring it.""Yes, this really affecting us", I said, so i ended up buying lettuce that is already in packages. If this continues then we are going to end up eating frankenfood. Just mentioning the name makes me get the chills. No more real food, all made by scientist and made to fulfill our hunger. Will frankenfood have any affects on our body later on in the future?I dont know how they make these foods, what they contain, if its hormones or whatever, this is not healthy for our body. That's why a community garden should be created in our community so we can get our vegetables fresh. Also we know what were eating in these gardens becuase we made them.

Two words of the day are demands and supply

Demands is how people decide to buy what they are willing and able to buy. This also depends on money because if they don't have right amount they can only buy their needs.

Supply is how much the producers are going to sell their product and also at what price.Producers must know the sweet spot on the price of the product if they want their products to be sold.

After taking a quiz on oil I noticed that i know nothing about oil and how the world depends on it. I had a very low score which makes me seem like if i don't really care about it and i bet there's more people out there that don't know about it, like what country consumes the most oil? What are they doing to solve this problem? Oil is very important and we have to know more about it.

Breaking News

Today i turned on my TV, as usual and I watched a news report about petroleum and I learned that we use it allot, just think about it, in a day we use 180 million gallons of gasoline. That's just gasoline but imagine all the other. What I found most surprising was that oil is not only used for cars or on cooking oil is used for allot of thing like medicine on pain reliever, I never knew petroleum can be used for medicine. There's also petroleum in detergents, I thought it was bad for our bodies but i guess not because were always using it. We need to stop depending on oil too much because when it all ends were not going to know what to do.
